I knew someone would misinterpret my Sound Off about making a donation to hungry children half way around the world, instead of giving out candy to my neighborhood kids (“Give Donation Instead,” Oct. 12-18). Your point that a peanut butter cup might nourish a local, hungry child Trick-or-treating at my house is incredibly dumb. Candy isn’t nourishment, and if they are hungry, candy should not be their calorie supplement of choice. The truth is, I don’t have enough money to make a donation and “feed” the children in my neighborhood crap. So, the little monsters will just have to get their candy fix elsewhere. I followed my conscience on this one. There are more than a million children in East Africa at risk of death from starvation in the next few months.
