I am hearing a lot of talk about schools merging and closing. Instead of listening to the local rumor mill, I decided to do some research on my own. I encourage everyone to look into this topic- a great website is http://www.p12.nysed.gov/mgtserv/sch_dist_org/GuideToReorganizationOfSchoolDistricts.htm There are even flyers being circulated in one community with a lot of misinformation on them. Did you know that schools can’t merge without voter and community approval? This means that the choice is ours, not the board or administration. For those who don’t want to lose your local school, then you need to support your school. Volunteer on committees, attend board meetings and get involved. Be part of the solution rather than spreading misinformation and rumors around. But don’t complain about your tax bill and expect to keep your school in your community. You can’t have it both ways.
