Funeral services for Clarence (Benny) F. Richards, Sr., 78, of Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton and formerly of West Stockholm, will be held on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam. Father Douglas Lucia, of St. Mary’s Church in Canton, will be officiating. The burial will take place in the West Stockholm Cemetery following the ceremony. Clarence passed away on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at the Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Mr. Richards was born on November 11, 1931 in Dickinson Center. He was the son of Milan Richards and Margaret McIntyre. He married Ann Robinson on August 16, 1956 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam. A graduate of Potsdam High School in 1950, Mr. Richards was a lifelong farmer from 1950 until 2001. He was also a member of the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department.
Clarence Richards is survived by his wife, Ann Richards and a son, Clarence Richards, Jr., both of West Stockholm; two daughters, Patricia Richards of Lakewood, CA and Priscilla (Dale) Breault of Chateaugay; two grandchildren, Samuel and Charles Breault, also of Chateaugay; a brother, Warren H. (Rena) Richards of Oswego and two sisters, Ella (David)Whitten of Orange Beach, Alabama and Dorothy Wilcox of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
