Olive Louise (Chapin) Young, 99, formerly of Hammond

HAMMOND – Funeral services for Olive Louise (Chapin) Young, 99 of Fulton, N.Y., and formerly of Black Lake Road, Hammond, will be held on Tuesday, July 20, at 3 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Cathy Stevenson, Pastor of the Hammond Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be at Black Lake “Cedar” Cemetery in Morristown.

Calling hours will also be held on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral, with an Eastern Star Ritual scheduled at 2 p.m. during the visitation period.

Mrs. Young passed away on Sunday July 18, 2010 at the Michaud Nursing Home in Fulton.

Surviving are grandchildren Keith O’Leary & his wife Joyce of Macedon, N.Y., Kenneth O’Leary & his wife Sarah of Atmore, Ala., Kelley Lloyd & her husband Robert of Ontario, N.Y., Kevin O’Leary & his wife Heather of Foley, Ala., Cynthia Huber & her husband James of Fulton, N.Y., Diane Workman of Liverpool, N.Y., Jerry Young & his wife Elizabeth of Scotia, N.Y.; 11 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Alden L. Young in 2004; a daughter Mrs. Douglas (Catherine) O’Leary in 1984, a son Roger Young in 2005 and a daughter-in-law Jean Gibson Young in 1997; three sisters Elsie Young, Frances Morris & Jane Young along with three brothers Edwin, Albert & Wilbur Chapin Jr.

Olive was born on Sept. 8, 1910 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of Wilbur H. & Mattie (Weller) Chapin.

She attended Ogdensburg schools for her education, and married Alden L. Young on November 5, 1929.

She worked as a homemaker, dairy farmer and care giver to many patients from the Psychiatric Center, owned and operated summer cottages that were built by her husband on the shores of their home on Black Lake, and was a clerk at the Edwardsville Grocery Store for many years.

She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Stone Church, Order of the Eastern Stars and the N.Y. State Grange.

She loved to make pies for her family and friends, and was an avid bingo and card player who also loved her flower and vegetable gardens.
