Committal services for Jennie M Hitsman, 98 formerly of Madrid will be Monday (August 22, 2011) 1:00 pm at the Madrid Cemetery, Madrid with Rev. Helen Beck. Pastor of the United Church of Madrid officiating. Arrangements are entrusted with the Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid. There will no public calling hours or funeral services. Jennie M. Hitsman died Saturday morning, August 20, 2011 at the Maple Wood United Helpers Facility, Canton.
Surviving Jennie M. Hitsman is her daughter, Mrs. George ( Anita) Kimble of Canton; six grandchildren, Barbara ( Keith) Matthie of Madrid, George Kimble of Potsdam, Robert (Danyette) Kimble of Ogdensburg,Cathy (Dale) Hebert of York, PA,Kenneth Pfeister of Stony Point,NY and Kelly(Rick) Ceccheeti of Pomona;13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several step great and great, great-grandchildren; a brother, Conrad ( Margaret) Felix of Zephyrhills Hills,FL; a sister, Elizabeth Price of Jacksonville,FL
Jennie was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Pfeister; and three brothers and three sisters, Winfred, Franklin and Arthur, Letha, Ruth and Agnes.
Jennie M. Histman was born in Norfolk, May 31, 1913 the daughter of Sidney R. and Mary (Currier) Phelix. Jennie's family moved to Madrid when she was 13 years of age. She graduated from Madrid High School in 1933 and worked in the United Helpers Orphanage, Ogdensburg until her marriage to Clarence (Joe) Phelix April 14, 1936 in the Chipman Church parsonage.
They then went to Thields, NY to work in the Letchworth State School retiring in June 1969. Jennie and her husband resided on the Chipman-Pinegrove Road for many years. Jennie was a life long member of the United Church of Madrid. Her husband died June 26; 1976.
At the family’s request, those wishing to donate may do so in her memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the American Cancer Society.
