Douglas Lynn Shirley, Rochester and formerly of Ogdensburg, died unexpectedly Monday, July 25, at age 42 at his home.
He was born on June 17, 1969, in Oswego, and attended schools in St. Lawrence County and in Mexico, NY, and graduated from Mater Dei College. He was a counselor with Creative Wellness Coalition, Rochester.
Doug was gentle, compassionate, and always thought about others first. He enjoyed spending time with his pet dove, Romeo, and fishing.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia Stevens, Ogdensburg; father, David Shirley, CA; brother, Andrew Shirley, MD; sister, Sharon Shirley, CT; grandmother, Elsie Shirley, Sandy Creek; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his nieces, Megan and Hannah, whom he especially loved. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Nemo and Amy Stevens, and his paternal grandfather, Arnold Shirley.
Family will receive friends Saturday, July 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the New Comer Funeral Home, 6 Empire Blvd. where a Memorial Service will immediately follow calling hours at 3 p.m.
