CANTON — St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary M. Pasqua announced today that, after the commencement of a jury trial, Dennis Roman plead guilty to one count of first-degree attempted promoting prison contraband.
The conviction arose from a July 5, 2022 incident at Gouverneur Correctional Facility. According to the D.A.’s office, Roman was to possess a 8-inch long weapon made from a sharpened toothbrush.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 17.
As part of the plea agreement, Roman will be sentenced to 1 and a half to 3 years with the Department of Corrections as a second felony offender. The sentence will be served consecutively to any remaining sentence for his prior felony conviction.
“The safety of our correction’s officers and security of the correctional facilities in our community is taken seriously and my office will continue to prosecute these crimes to the fullest extent of the law,” Pasqua said.
