MASSENA – William L. Davis, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Massena Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are under the care of the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena, where friends and family may be received on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 4:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Mother Sonya Boyce officiating. The burial will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Norfolk, in the spring at the convenience of the family.
Bill was born on March 8, 1943, in Massena, the son of William J. and Leona (Richards) Davis. After graduation, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving his country proudly during the Vietnam Conflict. He then started a career at ALCOA retiring after 29 years in the smelting department. He married Eleanor Dudley on March 25, 1978, at Notre Dame Church in Malone, NY. Eleanor predeceased him on November 16, 2000.
Bill was talented in construction and built his home in the North Country. He was an avid antique collector of old pedal bikes and vintage cars, having been an owner of a 1968 GTO, a 1974 GTO, but his favorite was in old coins; another pastime for Bill was taking rides on trains. He was a member of the Massena VFW Post No. 1143 and AMVETS Post No. 4. Bill was also an avid Mets fan; he liked to play softball and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children; William J. Davis of Brasher Falls, NY; Sue Davis and Amanda Swiger, both of Massena, NY, along with grandchildren; Nolan, Brody, Autumn, Robert, and Brenrox. Bill is also survived by a sister Carol and husband, Donald Patnode of Bloomington, IN; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great-nephews.
