Norwood Village Green Concert Series launches 50th anniversary logo, receives $30,000 arts council grant

The original logo of two people sitting on lawn chairs enjoying the concerts on the Norwood Village Green was created by its co-founder Harriet “Mickey” Liotta. Graphically it captured the spirit of the venerable series.

It was based on a photo she took of former Norwood Mayor Dick Boprey and his wife Marlene. After faithful use for many years the logo needed technical upgrading while still capturing the spirit of the original. Norwood resident Valisha Arnold of Clever Toad Studios was engaged to do the upgrade. Then she was recently engaged to further upgrade the logo for the 50th Anniversary of the Series.

In support of its 50th Anniversary Season the series has received a New York State Council on the Arts Support for Organizations grant in the amount of $30,000.

Founded as an ad hoc entity the series presented its 1st concert series with four local groups in 1974.

Then in 1978 the New York State Council on the Arts introduced its Decentralization program and the North Country Library System was designated to administer the program. At that point the series became part of the Norwood Library and the Series was called the Norwood Library Village Green Concert Series.

During this era the series received grants ranging from $2000-$5000. Eventually the series expanded beyond decentralization and needed its own board of directors, non-profit incorporation, and New York State Charities registration and in 1998 the series began applying for grants directly to NYSCA. These grants ranged from $5000-$12,000.

In 2022 the series received $25,000 and that was increased in 2023 to $30,000. With the 1998 incorporation the series was eligible for many other governmental and private foundation grants.
