Potsdam sophomore is first St. Lawrence County student composer at NYSSMA winter concerts

POTSDAM – Potsdam High School sophomore Constantine Darie will have two pieces played as part of the New York State Music Association (NYSSMA) Electronic Composition Showcase on Dec. 1, and the Young Composers Honors Concert, Dec. 2 in Rochester.

This is the first time a student from St. Lawrence County has had pieces accepted into these competitive NYSSMA music showcases in their 23 year history.

Darie wrote the first piece, titled “Other Side” based on an English class book assignment. The second piece “Waves,” originally premiered at an Orchestra of Northern New York Concert, “Dreams of Spring,” conducted by Maestro Kenneth Andrews.

“I hope this will inspire more students from Potsdam and St. Lawrence County to get involved with writing music and participating in these concerts,” said Darie.
