Opinion: Hard to keep nose out of other folks business, says West Potsdam man

Although I don’t have a “dog in this hunt” I really enjoyed Ms. Goolden’s letter to NCN. She is exactly right to question negative comments about the sale or use of their land.

And I know that folks will say, “who cares what G. Niles thinks”? I get it. But by the same token, why do thing that your criticism gives you any say in what other people do with what God has given them dominion over. It’s their land.

Lots of farmers, (especially small family farms) have worked tirelessly just to survive. Most of the time, vacations and days off are slim and I’m pretty sure most didn’t have Columbus Day or Labor Day, off. Chores still have to done on Christmas and Easter. At some point in time, it will probably be legal to grow marijuana and I doubt that protesters will mount the same opposition.

Lastly, the description of your so called, “Scenic by-way and Gate-way “ to Canton is ignorant to the point of laughable. Look across the roads into town. If you can ignore the smell, the mud and manure in the road, and the spray of uncovered loads of feed on the highway, you should have no problem with solar panels.

Years ago, an old friend explained it to this way. People find it hard to keep their nose out of other folks business for this reason. They like to see you get ahead. Just not ahead of them. May God Bless the farmers.
