Trails Day set Saturday at Higley Flow State Park

COLTON — The Friends of Higley Flow State Park Inc. is sponsoring its annual Trails Day on Saturday morning, Nov. 5, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Park.

The purpose of the event is to put the trails into top shape for winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Any work requiring machinery has already been completed by Park staff. What remains is the final dressing up and light trimming on the trails.

The Friends of Higley Flow State Park anticipate a robust winter season again this year. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing the trails at Higley are a way for families to get outside in the fresh, crisp air of the winter months.

Volunteers who are able are asked to download, print and complete a volunteer waiver beforehand. Waivers can be found on the group’s website, www.higleyfriends.org, and will be collected at the booth when entering the Park. There are no tolls or fees to enter the park during this time of year.

Those who can’t complete a waiver ahead of time will be given one to complete in their vehicle. Volunteers needing to complete one onsite are asked to bring a pen.

Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes, and may want to wear work gloves. The Park has some tools, but volunteers may also want to bring their own loppers, rakes, etc.

There will be a group picture this year and everyone is encouraged to take candid photos to share.

A list of jobs needing completing is posted on the group’s website and Facebook page. Volunteers can identify the area they wish to work on when handing in their waivers. The attendant will tell them where to go to get instructions and equipment for their area.

Organizers expect the work to be completed by 1 p.m.
