CANTON — St. Lawrence County is trying to develop an emergency county animal response team (CART) to help with animals evacuated from emergency situations.
People are far less likely to evacuate their homes during emergencies if they are unable to take their pets with them, the county said.
St. Lawrence County Emergency Services is working with other local agencies to help develop and train a volunteer force who can be called upon to help care for evacuated animals during or after an emergency such as apartment fires, flooding or ice storms.
A training for interested volunteers will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Human Services Building in the upstairs conference room at 80 State Highway 310 in Canton.
Lunch will be provided.
Those interested parties should RSVP to [email protected] by 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 to reserve their spot.
