POTSDAM -- Michael R. Prentice, surrounded by his family via zoom, was finally free of pain in Bali, Indonesia, on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Born October 23, 1957, he was the son of the late Gerald and Shirley Sullivan Prentice of Ft. Jackson, NY.
Michael was a lover of books and constantly had his nose in one. He had a wonderful ability to retain what he read and was a wealth of knowledge on many subjects.
Born with Spina Bifida, he always had a heart and compassion for people who had disabilities. Having been bullied through many of his school years, he persevered, held his head high, and proved he was an able person.
A graduate of SUNY Canton and Clarkson University, he went on to work in places like Laura Ashley, Gucci, and AT&T and in his earlier years in Bali, he partnered to create Erik and Mike, a craft and jewelry business, with his dear friend.
Along his life path, he met wonderful people who loved and accepted him for who he was and he loved them.
A 40+ year member of AA in the states and in Bali, Michael was truly blessed with many friendships throughout his life and especially through AA, which have become evident to us, his birth family, since he became pain free.
His greatest love was being in Bali. There he met many people who became his family. This is where he was happiest.
He loved the people there and they loved him. We are so thankful he was able to be there in his final moments and then spread to rest in the beach he loved most surrounded by his Bali family.
A special thank you to Chris Sperduto, Cliff Boren, and Devon Huang, for their special care to Michael in his final days/hours and to Gede Sudiastra who took care of Michael for nearly 20 years.
Michael is survived by his sister, Karen (Gerald) Burkum of Potsdam, NY and brother, Gerald (Teena) Prentice of Massena, NY; his nieces and nephews, Bradley (Gina Mirabella) Wilson of Rochester, NY, Jerika (Kevin) Remington of Canton, NY, Gregory (Hannah Marcellus) Burkum of Potsdam, NY, Jacob Losey, Tara Prentice of Massena, NY, his great nephews and niece, Prentice Remington, Ashton Remington and Paityn Remington of Canton, NY, Rhett Burkum of Potsdam, NY, and Justin Martin of Massena, NY and his chosen nephews, Joshua Mojjis of Bensalem, PA and Michael Baskin of Portland, Oregon.
As per Michael’s wishes there will be no services.
