William and Janet Leary of Ogdensburg celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2019.
William, son of the late Kenneth & Agnes Leary married Janet S. Greene, daughter of the late Joseph & Sylvia Greene on April 19,1969 at Sacred Heart Church, Massena with the Rev. John Stasiowski officiating.
Maid of honor was Loretta Babcock. Bridesmaids were Patricia Collins, and June Rusaw. Best man was Robert Slyman. Ushers were David Greene and Peter Euto.
William and Janet are communicants of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Notre Dame Church, Ogdensburg.
Janet is a 1965 graduate of Holy Family High School, Massena, and a graduate of Pauline Chrishell's School of Hair Dressing and Cosmetology, Watertown.
She has been employed by Newberry's Department Store and the Boston Store Beauty Salon, Massena; Sunny Day Nursery School and The Medicine Place, Ogdensburg; St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, Ogdensburg and Heuvelton schools.
Janet enjoys working on stain glass projects, line dancing, walking, and spending time with family.
William is a 1963 graduate of Massena Central High School and a 1966 graduate of Canton ATC. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as a radioman aboard destroyers. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
William has been employed by Acme Grocery Store and Penn Central Railroad. He went on to work for the U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service, as a radio operator for the Border Patrol, as well as immigration inspector, supervisory immigration inspector, interim port director at the Ogdensburg/Prescott International Bridge. He retired in 2003 after 38 years of service.
William enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.
Together, William and Janet enjoy their winters in Surfside Beach, S.C.
They have three daughters -- Angela and son-in-law Tony DeGram, Howell, Mich.; Jennifer and son-in-law Raymond Liuzzi, Whitesboro; and Christina and son-in-law Tiernan Smith, Ogdensburg. They also have five grandchildren -- Sydney and Colin Degram, Maria Liuzzi, Parker Murray, and Gannon Johnson.
