A Funeral Mass for Shirley A. (David) LaRock-Ramie, age 76 of Melbourne, FL and formerly of Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Notre Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Ramie died Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2011 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL.
Surviving is her husband James A. Ramie of Melbourne, FL; a son, Joseph L. LaRock of Palm Bay, FL; step-children, Michele Ramie Gibson & her husband Richard of Ogdensburg, Deneen M. Ramie & her partner Victor Pharoah of Ogdensburg, Melissa Ramie Chevrier of Ogdensburg; grandchildren, Karen Kossow, James Gibson, Matthew Blackmer, Sarah Johnston, Cody Blackmer, Brian Duprey, Brent Chevrier, Megan Chevrier; great-grandchidren, Kiera Rae Duprey, Ramie Sarah-Ann Blackmer, Rylee Deneen Ramie, Brian James Duprey, Liam Kossow; a sister, Janice (David) Scott & her husband Robert of Potsdam, sister-in-laws, Donna (LaRock-Manke) Gusmerotti & her husband Joseph of Bridgeport, Barbara (LaRock) McCarthy & her husband Thomas of Tupper Lake, Bridget (LaRock) Cranford & her husband William of Denver, Shirley (Leblanc) Ramie of Black River, Kay (Baker) Ramie & her husband Gerald of Ogdensburg; brother-in-law, Stuart Woodside of Heuvelton; nieces & nephews, Cassie Scott Reagan, Robert Scott Jr., Meaghan Scott Voss, Richard Scott and the entire Manke, McCarthy, Cranford & Ramie extended families. Her first husband, Richard M. LaRock and a brother, Richard L. David predeceased her.
Shirley was born on January 15, 1935 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Lawrence S. & Dorothy M. (Bouchard) David. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1952 and continued her education at D’Youville College in Buffalo where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in 1956. She also took several graduated courses at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh. She married Richard M. LaRock on Aug 16, 1958 at Notre Dame Church. He predeceased her on Sept 11, 1985.
During her career she was employed at the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital from 1956-1957, the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center from 1957-1958, the St. Lawrence County Public Health from 1958 – 1960, Ogdensburg City Schools from 1960-1961, Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Kenmore, NY from 1961 – 1963, Ogdensburg School of Practical Nursing as an instructor from 1964 – 1967, SUNY Canton also as a nursing instructor from 1967-1969, and then the Ogdensburg City School District where she worked as the Department Head of Health Services until her retirement in 1991.
