Norwood Fire Department gets new $183,400 tanker

NORWOOD -- After eight months of building and waiting, Norwood has a new tanker for its fire department.

The new 2,100 gallon tanker with a 1,000 gallon-per-minute pump has arrived and is in service.

The $183,400 cost was almost all covered – 95 percent of it – through an Assistance to Firefighters Grant written by Ex-Chief Tim Donahue. The unexpected grant from FEMA was on top of a $146,000 equipment grant also received this past year. That grant provided the department with new turnout gear, radios, AED for rescue, SCBA’s, and a new air compressor.

The new International truck is automatic and high-tech enough to make it easier to have more qualified drivers available when needed. Training representatives spent the day they delivered the unit in Norwood providing daytime and evening training on the truck.
