Funeral services for Mary “Theresa” MacMartin, 79, of 17 Barr Road, Ogdensburg, will be held on Monday (Dec. 6, 2010) at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Albert J. Hauser officiating.
Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fox and Murray Funeral Home.
Mrs. MacMartin died Tuesday (Dec. 2, 2010) at the home of her daughter Leslie in Hammond.
Surviving are three children, G. “Joseph” MacMartin and his companion Rebecca Martin of Ogdensburg, Mary Durand and her husband Charles of Rochester, Leslie MacMartin and her special friend Amy Jennings of Hammond; a sister Joan Rogers of Ogdensburg; a brother Edmund Barr and his wife Sonya of Ogdensburg; a sister-in-law Shirley Gordon and her husband Doug of Hammond; a brother-in-law Leslie MacMartin of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Adam Durand of Rochester, Megan and Matthew Burrough of Charlotte, N.C., Ryan Durand of Rochester, Rachel MacMartin of Ohio, Erin MacMartin of Hammond, Anastazia and Alyxandra Scalone of Hammond and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister Carole Connors and a brother-in-law John “Jack” Rogers.
“Theresa” was born on June 10, 1931 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Edmund J. Sr. and Elizabeth (Morley) Barr. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1949 and attended the Effey Lou Wallace Business School.
She married Gerald A. MacMartin on June 20, 1953 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Everett Denesha officiating the couple’s marriage. He predeceased her in 1978.
She worked as a secretary until her marriage, and then stayed at home to raise her family.
After several years she re-entered the work force and became a secretary to the Superintendent of the Ogdensburg City School District. She retired in 1984.
She then moved to Florida and spent summers at her present home.
In 1988 she permanently moved back to the North Country where she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, living on the river and trying her luck at the casino.
