Morley firefighters to burn down house to practice their skills

MORLEY – The Morley Fire Department will burn down an old house Dec. 11 so members can practice their firefighting skills.

The Liscum family has arranged for the department to conduct a controlled burn of the family’s old family residence at 7141 County Route 27, also known as the Canton-Morley Road, according to David M. Liscum of Barefoot Bay, Fla. The house was built in the 1850s.

“The home is in disrepair, and rather than salvage it, we decided to allow the fire department to conduct a training exercise with a controlled burn of the structure,” he said.

Cindi Perkins, granddaughter of Lee and Geraldine Liscum, has been coordinating the permitting and fire department arrangements.
