Sullivan, Weisz help Lady Saints skate to tie 6th ranked Boston College

Sophomore center Kayla Sullivan tied the game with 14.7 seconds to go in the second period and St. Lawrence University and Boston College battled through the third period and a five minute overtime without further scoring in a 1-1 women's hockey tie at Appleton Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Saints came out of the weekend series with the sixth ranked Eagles with a win and a tie, winning Friday's game 7-3 to hand BC its first loss. The Eagles are now 7-1-4 on the season while the Saints are 4-5-2.The Saints are unbeaten in their last four (3-0-1) heading into a Tuesday ECAC meeting at Clarkson.

"It was a good weekend for us," said Saint coach Chris Wells. "To be able to play such a high quality offensive team and come away with a win and a tie is pretty impressive. They can make a lot of plays.

"I think we learned a lot from our play in these games. I feel like we got a lot better this weekend. We did a very good job defensively against BC's Kelli Stack...she is a fun player to watch and is exceptionally talented."

Boston College freshman Mary Restuccia scored the only goal of the first period on a late power play for the Eagles. She took the puck from senior Kelli Stack and stepped around a Saint defender, walking in on goalie Maxie Weisz and tucking the puck between Weisz's pads and the post for her fourth of the season with 14.3 seconds to play in the period.

The Saints also cashed in on a late power play as Rylee Smith took the initial shot from the side of the net which was stopped by Eagle goalie Kiera Kingston, but Sullivan pounced on the rebound and jammed it past the goaltender to tie the game with 14.7 seconds left in the second period. Karell Emard also assisted on the Saint goal.

Neither team could break the tie the rest of the way, although both created good opportunities. Kingston finished with 28 saves including five in overtime, while Weisz made 24 saves, 10 of them coming in the third period.
