POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam, Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Clarkson University are contributing $105,000 to the Village of Potsdam toward the purchase of a new ladder tower fire truck.
Each institution will provide $35,000 to the village over the next five years to defray the cost of the new fire-fighting vehicle. The Village of Potsdam and Town of Potsdam are each contributing $300,000 toward the purchase.
Clarkson University President Tony Collins, Canton-Potsdam Hospital President and CEO David Acker and SUNY Potsdam President John F. Schwaller met on Friday, Nov. 12, to present a symbolic check to Potsdam Fire Department Chief Tim Jerome, alongside village Mayor Ron Tischler and town Supervisor Marie Regan.
The new "Tower 5" has a ladder that extends to 101 feet, has enclosed seating for five firefighters, enhanced safety features, and improved operating capabilities. It replaces a 1979 vintage 85-foot ladder truck.
The Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department says that the truck will serve the residents of Potsdam well for many years to come.
