Genevieve A. Kennedy, 89, formerly of Lisbon

Funeral services for Genevieve A. Kennedy, age 89, of McCord Woods Drive in Fairport, and formerly of Lisbon will be held on Friday (Oct 29, 2010) at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Laurena Wickham Will officiating. Burial will follow the service at Flackville Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held also on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Kennedy passed away Tuesday morning (Oct 26, 2010) at the home of her son Richard in Fairport.

Surviving is a daughter, Carol Dissinger and her husband Chester of Lakeland, FL; three sons, Stephen Kennedy of Pittsburgh, PA, Richard Kennedy and his wife Mary of Fairport, and David Kennedy and his wife Michele of Belmont, MA; three sisters, Frances Putney of Lisbon, Lois Archer of Grass Valley, CA, and Mary Matveld and her husband Edward of North Hollywood, CA; a brother, Dean Akins and his wife Betty of Lisbon; six grandchildren, John Dissinger and his wife Sharon, and Ben Dissinger, Jennifer, Sarah, Elisabeth and Benjamin Kennedy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A son, Gary Kennedy; and her husband, Kenneth predeceased her.

Genevieve was born on May 18, 1921 in Lisbon, a daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Thompson) Akins. She graduated from Lisbon High School and the Watertown School of Commerce. She then became a member of the Women’s Army Corps Signal Corps Division in Washington DC which was responsible for managing the communication and information systems for the combined armed forces.

On November 13, 1945 she married Kenneth K. Kennedy at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Akins. The couple then relocated to New Jersey and then to Illinois where she was employed in the accounting department for 10 years at the Hitchcock Publishing Company in Wheaton. She then became a homemaker until her husband retired in 1981, and they relocated to their former home in Lisbon.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg, and enjoyed reading, crafts, and specialized in unwavering kindness, generosity, and keeping an open door and an open heart.
