Dorothy Carter, 69, DeKalb Junction

Dorothy Carter, 69, of DeKalb Junction, died October 24, 2010, at her home. Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, is in care of arrangements.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 30, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, Reverend William Hart officiating.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Frank; mother Stella Backus, Canton; sons Frank Gerald Carter II, Rochester, Gerald Patrick Carter, MS, and Curt Patrick and Brenda Carter of Geneva; brothers Bernard and Chris Backus, Edwards, and Albert Backus, CA; sister Kyle and Al Hannon, Canton; grandchildren Connor Patrick, Kaitlyn, Alissa and Austin Carter; and great granddaughter Heidi Sheffield.

She was born January 8, 1941 in Boston, MA, the child of Albert H. and Stella Nyzio Backus. She graduated from Jordan Central High. She married Frank G. Carter in Jordan, May 28, 1960. She worked at Phillips ECG, as a supervisor of communications and data processing, and then she was the registrar at the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council, both in Seneca Falls.

She loved crafts, gardening, and sang in the Gospel Concert at St. Lawrence University in February 2009. She was an active community volunteer, as a member of the Old DeKalb United MethodistChurch, the United Methodist Women, and The Thousand Island Girl Scout Council. Dorothy and April Allen were the co leaders of Hermon DeKalb Senior Troop 199, Junior Troop 40, and Cadet Troop 79. She was a troop leader in Seneca Falls, through the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council. She spearheaded the Coats for Kids program, and was an active participant of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any youth dedicated group that the donor is passionate about.
