CANTON – “When the emerald ash borer gets here, it will cause big problems in a hurry,” says Patrick Whalen, Supervising Forester for DEC Region 6, Potsdam Sub-Office, and an upcoming meeting will present information about the bug.
“We need to prepare for it, because it’s spreading in our direction,” Whalen says.
To that end, a meeting to explain the spread of the forest pest and what we can do about it is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 in Brown Hall’s Bloomer, Gouverneur, Massena and Ogdensburg areas.
Entomologist Whitmore, who has studied forest insects for over 30 years, helped develop a workbook to help communities plan for the bug’s arrival and deal with it when it arrives.
