Legislator candidate Bunstone, Canton councilman candidate Morgan on TV this weekend

The second set of North Country Matters Presents: Conversation with Candidates is on Oct. 8.

The first conversation is with Jim Bunstone, candidate for the St. Lawrence County Legislature from District 10. The second is with Canton Town Council candidate Mike Morgan.

Two one-half hour conversations a week are taped on Friday afternoons in the studios of WCKN, the public access station located at Clarkson University.

The first two half-hour segments begin broadcasting this week. WPBS-TV in Watertown will show the first two conversations, with 118th Assemblywoman Addie Russell and SLC District 11 candidate Dan Parker, on Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. respectively. WCKN, Time Warner Channel 30 in the Canton and Potsdam area, will broadcast the two shows on Oct. 7 and 8 at 10 p.m. and again on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.

The conversations are a presentation of AAUW-St. Lawrence County and AAUW-Jefferson County, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County, North Country Public Radio (NCPR), the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, WPBS-TV, the North Country Region of NYS-PTA, and the Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University. They are intended as an exercise in civic and civil engagement to restore our political process, which the group says has become dominated by big money, special interest organizations and the political parties who have swamped our system beneath a tidal wave of money, pressure, advertising, and political calculation designed to manipulate rather than inform voters.

Other interested groups are invited to inquire about becoming partners.

Only one of the ten Conversations is left to schedule to tape and air before Election Day.
