N-N Class of '63 scholarship committee has goal to keep fund going for years to come

At its annual meeting last month at the home of Suzanne and Mike Lebeda in South Colton, the Norwood-Norfolk Central School Class of ‘63 Scholarship Fund committee set a goal to raise enough funds to continue the award for many years to come.

The group has awarded a $1,000 one-time scholarship to a graduating senior from NNCS each year since 2004. It is specifically for a student with an 80 or higher average and involved in a variety of activities, with preference given to one showing financial need who will attend a two or four year college or trade school or technical training program. The school makes the final decision. Former recipients have gone into nursing, engineering, dental hygiene and X-ray technology.

The fund was established in 2003 from donations from classmates, friends and family of the 1963 group with initial seed money from the estate of Colleen (Bowhall) Clary who died after a battle with ALS.

Directors volunteering to administer the fund are Bob Akland, Suzanne (Langelier) Lebeda, Jerry Deshane, Gerry Grady, Jane (Perry) Peacock, Gary Regan, Diane (Warner)O’Connor, Ellen (Royce) Farrington, Carolyn (Jenner) Swafford, Phil Mackey, Joel Bixby, Paul Frederick, Doug Clary.
