Mary Frances Sprague, 80, of Old DeKalb Road, died Monday, November 4, 2013 at her home.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9th from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Her funeral service will follow at 1:15 p.m. with Lay Pastor Walter Lacks and Pastor Gene Thomas co-officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
Mary was born to Ralph L. and Mabel (Tenbrook) Cherry on February 17, 1933 in Belle Glade, FL. She was a graduate of Forest Lake Academy, FL and Columbia Union College, Tacoma Park, MD, where she earned her Nursing Degree. She worked as a registered nurse in Bethesda, MD, Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL, and at Canton Hospital. Mary also worked for Dr. Leek in Canton and retired from NYSARC in Potsdam.
On August 26, 1962, she married Clarence R. Sprague, Jr. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Canton. Mr. Sprague died Jan. 8, 1997.
Mary is survived by her four sons, Richard C. and companion Mary Maroney Garris of Canton, Russell C. of Canton, Roger C. of Edwards and Robert C. of Potsdam; five grandchildren, Kyle, Pamela, Teia, Paige and Roscoe; and two great-grandchildren, Chase and Piper.
She was predeceased by a sister, Joanne Curry; and an infant brother.
Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and helping on the family farm. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
