William E. McGuire, 64, of East Orvis Street, Massena, died Thursday, (March 10, 2011) at Fletcher-Allen Medical Center, in Burlington. Vt. A mass of resurrection will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Massena, with Rev. Michael Gaffney presiding. Interment will in Calvary Cemetery, Massena. Friends and family are welcome to call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
Surviving William are his sisters and brothers, Ellen Montgomery of Altona, Barbara and husband Alan Rochefort, Massena. Daniel and wife Gloria of Cazenovia, Patrick and Jean of Lisbon, and Brian P. of Lockport, a sister-in-law, JoAnne, of Camilius; many nieces and nephews, Sue, Corey Montgomery, Karen Turner, Laurie Martin, William, Tom Montgomery, Mickey, Scott McGuire, Kelley McGuire-Griffin, Katie Thurber, Sean McGuire, Tadd Rochefort, and Nicole Plourde; and several great nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a brother, Donald, in 2007.
William was born on September 22, 1946, the son of the late William E. and Mildred (Clark) McGuire.
He was a graduate of Massena Central High School in 1955 and received an Associate Degree from Clinton College. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Potsdam State College.
Bill taught Junior High in Massena and then went to teach Junior High at Ogdensburg Free Academy for 32 years.
Bill was very active in St. Joseph’s Parish, as a lecturer, Eucharistic Minister and head of Bingo at St. Joseph’s Church. Bill served as Parish Trustee at St. Joseph’s Church and also was on the Parish Council. Bill was very active in Boy Scouts, serving as leader where he received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award presented to a leader.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s/St. Mary’s Sanctuary Fund, Massena Volunteer Rescue Squad, or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
