Vera Snyder, 84, a resident of the Highland Nursing Home, formerly of LBSH, passed away Wednesday (January 26, 2011). She had been a resident of the nursing home for the past four years.
Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop.
Calling hours for Vera will be held Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. at the Hammill Funeral Home, with funeral services at 3 p.m.
Surviving Vera is one daughter, Mrs. Carla Peters of Brasher Falls, five sons Henry and his wife Jane Snyder of Potsdam, Steven Snyder and his companion Carla Jebo, of Brasher, Michael and his wife Lori Snyder of Raymondville, David and his wife Melissa Snyder of Brasher Center, and Dana Snyder. Also surviving Vera are two brothers Royal Phillips of Potsdam, Darwin and his wife Lucille Phillips of Norwood; two sisters, Beverly Bonstowe of West Stockholm, Mary Lou and her husband Lawrence Mitchell of Sandfordville; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter at birth, a daughter Linda Gravel, also two brothers Yale and Dolan.
Vera was born November 5, 1926 the daughter of the late Henry W. and Byo W. (Lawrence) Phillips. She was born in Louisville.
Mrs. Snyder married Roy J. Snyder on April 28, 1944 in Madrid. Vera and Roy enjoyed 61 wonderful years together before he passed May 2005.
Mrs. Snyder was a foster parent for many years. At one time she also worked as a nurse's aide at the Barlow Nursing Home as well as Canton Potsdam Hospital. At one time she was a secretary for John Beswick Auction Barn and worked for the Ames Department Store in Massena.
Mrs. Snyder enjoyed fishing, hunting, needlepoint, and crafting over the years. She loved to spend time with her family especially when ice cream was involved.
