Funeral services for Thomas W. Gilbert, age 69, of Madison Avenue, Ogdensburg, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Frary Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Gilbert passed away Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2011, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Gloria of over forty years; three sons, Roger TenEyck and his wife, Penni, of Big Flats, Scott Gilbert of Ogdensburg and Billy Gilbert of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Kim Ives and her husband, Joe, of Ogdensburg; two brothers, Walter Gilbert and his wife, Shirley, of Ogdensburg; Richard Brabant and his wife, Jackie, of Ogdensburg; and grandchildren, Jillian Kilian and her husband Jon, Michael Ives, Emily Ives, Cassidi TenEyck, Kennidi TenEyck and Kaden TenEyck.
Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Gilbert and George Gilbert; and two sisters, Wanda Sherry and Betty Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Ogdensburg on November 11, 1941, the son of Walter and Agnes Prudhomme Gilbert. He attended local schools. He married the former Gloria Dupree on October 10, 1970. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He worked as a painter for Standard Shade Roller, where he worked until 1988, retiring after 28 years of service. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, where he was named Knight of the Year in 2009.
Mr. Gilbert was very active in Notre Dame Church where he served as a Eucharist Minister. He was also a greeter and was a volunteer cleaner for the church. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed time outdoors and spending time with his family.
