Sylvio M. Bouchard, 86 of Leslie Rd, Massena, passed away peacefully passed on Wednesday morning (December 28, 2011) at the St. Regis Nursing Home. Sylvio was a resident of the nursing home since March, 2011.
Sylvio is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Elizabeth "Betty"; two sons, Robert and wife Jean of Akron, OH and David and wife Anne of Massena; a daughter, Judy and husband Greg MacKinnon of Massena; and six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Sylvio was predeceased by a brother, Henry.
Sylvio was born February 5, 1925 in Montreal, Quebec, the son of John and Clara Bouchard. Sylvio married Betty Sharlow on November 6, 1948 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena with Rev. Joseph Doud presiding. Sylvio proudly served his country in WWII in the US Army in the European Front, having been awarded a Purple Heart for his valor. Sylvio was employed at Homestead Dairies for 20 years . Sylvio had at one time owned and operated Joe's Donuts on Highland Road in Massena where he later was employed for a short time at Cadieux's Bakery.
He was a 3rd and 4th Degree, 50 Year member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1141, a past member of the VFW #1143 and a member of the Massena Senior Citizens. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. The Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree will meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Jack Downs presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena with full military honors. At the family’s request memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society.
