OGDENSBURG – Funeral services for Sylvia Carolyn Facey, 80, a resident of the Adirondack Medical Center-Mercy in Tupper Lake and formerly of Parkview Rise in Ogdensburg will be held privately. Her place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Facey passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at the Mercy Care Center in Tupper Lake.
Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas Facey & his wife Michele of Mooers, Timothy Facey & his wife Rebecca of Weedsport, Stephen Facey & his fiancée Selena Storer of Syracuse; and three daughters Carolyn Sharland of Rouses Point, Marilyn Bouchard of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephanie Moore & her husband Thomas of Plattsburgh; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister Janet Rice and a brother Phil Smith of Gouverneur.
She was predeceased by a sister Virginia Wood of Oneida, and step-father Raymond E. Smith of Gouverneur.
Sylvia was born on May 22, 1930 in Gouverneur, a daughter of the late Wesley & Emily (Taylor) Rice.
She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1948 and married William Nelson Facey Jr. on Dec. 24, 1950. The couple later divorced.
She was employed at the Southwood Building in the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for 15 years and also worked at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home and Dominic’s Pizza during her career.
She enjoyed shopping, country music, crosswords, assembling puzzles, camping, gardening and watching her children & grandchildren grow.
Her true love though, was driving “Big Mama” her 1962 Cadillac Coupe Deville.
She enjoyed her neighbors at Parkview Rise where she lived for 16 years and is remembered fondly for her generosity and kindness, often cooking meals for friends.
