Mr. Stefan John Lyons, “Wanienteh”, 22, of 62 Rooseveltown Road, tragically passed away on October 17, 2010 in Akwesasne.
Wanienteh was born on January 16, 1988 in Malone, the son of Raymond Lyons and Andra Garrow. He was the great-grandson of Mary "Wenniseriiostha" Tebo. He was a member of the wolf clan and the Kanienkehaka Kanonsesneh. He attended St. Regis Mohawk, Salmon River and Massena Schools, later receiving his GED. He also received his HVAC Certification and was an electrician with a local company.
Wanienteh was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and had roles in two movies, “The War that Made America” and “The New World.” He was an avid lacrosse player, most recently for the Island Redmen who made the trip in August to British Columbia to play in the President’s Cup. He also coached the Akwesasne Women Warriors with his brother, Duddy. He recently took an interest in broomball and played for Big Boy’s in the Massena Broomball League. He also enjoyed golfing, playing video games, and watching football. He mostly enjoyed hanging out with his friends and family.
Wanienteh is survived by his fiancé, Lisa Cook of Akwesasne; his 4 year old son, Karter; his mother, Andra Garrow and Lance Isaac of Syracuse; his father, Raymond Lyons of Philadelphia; his maternal grandparents, Alex and Minnie Garrow of Akwesasne; his paternal grandmother, Gertrude Lyons of Syracuse; his sister, Lanney "Tino" Laffin of Akwesasne; four brothers, Colyn and Dylan Lyons, both of the Onondaga Nation, Memphis "Swuzz" Terrance and Troy "Duddy" Lyons both of Akwesasne; a nephew, Thorn Burns; aunts and uncles, Alex “Big Boy” and Casie Garrow, Shawn Garrow, Rene Garrow, Monica and Isaac White, Chief Laverne Lyons of the Onondaga Nation, Char Lyons, Lenny Lyons, and Harold Lyons; and many cousins and dear friends.
He was predeceased by two infant siblings.
Friends may call at the home of his aunt and uncle, Alex and Casie Garrow, 62 Rooseveltown Road, beginning Tuesday 8:00 p.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held Thursday 12:00 noon at Kanienkehaka Kanonsesneh. Burial will follow in the family burial grounds. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
