Mrs. Shirley A. Howard, 86, 20 River Drive, Wilson Hill, formerly of Binghamton, passed away early Saturday morning at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been admitted on Thursday.
Shirley was born January 29, 1925 in Binghamton, the daughter of the late George and Olive Allington MaFall.
She graduated from Whitney Point Central School, where she recently enjoyed celebrating her 68th class reunion. Shirley married Michael Bish, which later ended in divorce.
She later married Paul Howard, who predeceased her on January 8, 1995.
Shirley worked for IBM in Endicott for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church in Binghamton and had been attending the Louisville Community Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, doing jigsaw, crossword, and cryto-quote puzzles. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, Kanasta, and especially UNO.
She is survived by her two children, Mary Lou and Thomas Howard of Wilson Hill and Edward “Spike” Howard of Binghamton. She is also survived a daughter-in-law, Dianne Howard of Binghamton; three granddaughters, Corinne and Michael Shoen, Christine and Matthew Brodsky, Bethany Howard; three grandsons, Charles and Joy Howard, Nicholas and Jeffrey Howard; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, David and Shirley McFall of Whitney Point; a sister-in-law, Freda McFall; and many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart.
She was predeceased by her son, Charles Howard in 2003; a brother, Dorous McFall; and 2 sisters, Phyllis McFall and Jean Bish.
There will be no calling hours.
A service celebrating Shirley’s life will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Louisville Community Church with Rev. Helen Beck, officiating. A service will also will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Fairview Methodist Church in Binghamton.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the Massena Rescue Squad.
