Sally Smith, 69, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Sally was born April 7, 1942 in Macomb, the daughter of William Henry and Retha Mae Hitchman Smith. Sally attended Gouverneur schools and lived around Gouverneur and Watertown until moving to South Carolina twenty-five years ago. She returned to the Watertown area in 2010. Sally had worked a variety of jobs including work at BOMAX Corp. in Watertown, shipping and receiving for a government contractor, doughnut shops and department stores. She enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles. She had previously been married to Thomas Matejcik.
Sally is survived by her five children, William Matejcik of Calcium, April Matejcik of Watertown, Penny Carrow of Watertown, Thomas Matejcik Jr. of Calcium, and John Matejcik of Texas; several grandchildren and one great grandchild; four brothers, Denver Smith of South Carolina, James Smith of New York, Hollie Smith of Florida, and Mark Smith of Fowler; two sisters, Joanne Rose of Gouverneur and Pansy Bowhall of Fowler; several nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend and companion, David Marshall of South Carolina.
She was predeceased by her brother, Patsy Smith.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 6th at 1:00 p.m. in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
