Ruth R. Ward, 72, 265 Bayley Road, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 13, at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since October 9, 2011. She had been battling cancer for the past five months.
Ruth was born on March 24, 1939, in Hopkinton, the daughter of late Sidney and Ferne Harte Conklin. She was a graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton Central School and BOCES where she received her LPN License. She then continued her education thru the New York State External Degree Program and received her RN License. On April 12, 1958, she married Joseph F. Ward at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hopkinton with Rev. Plante officiating.
She first worked at St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena as a nurse’s aide. She later went to work for Massena Memorial Hospital as a LPN. At the time of her retirement from Massena Memorial Hospital she was a charge nurse in the Emergency room and Intensive Care Unit. She now belongs to the Massena Memorial Hospital Retiree organization. She enjoyed playing bingo, and her dogs “Scooter” and “Sadie”. As her family was growing up she was one hundred percent committed and dedicated to them following all their sport activities avidly.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph; six children; Joseph Ward Jr. of Madrid, Kathleen and Richard Cootware of Knapp Station, Kevin and Rena Ward, and Gerald and Karen Ward, both of Massena, and twins, Tod Ward of Louisville, and Tad and Melissa Ward, of Massena; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and seven siblings, Norma, Dorothy, Shirley, Keitha, Sidney, David and Edward.
She was predeceased by a brother Gene.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Donald Manfred officiating.
