Funeral services for Ruth A. Hance, 91, formerly of State Hwy 310, Canton, will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:15 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Helen Beck officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.
Ruth died Tuesday, April 24th at Highland Nursing Home, Massena.
She was born November 4, 1920 in Oswegatchie, a daughter of Mynard and Florence (Lawrence) Preston. She attended Canton High School. On June 28, 1940 she married the late Mahlon M. Hance at the Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Dobbie as celebrant.
Ruth worked as a cook for the Kappa Delta Sorority during the early 50’s, the Phi Sig Fraternity in the 60’s and for Sigma Alpha Fraternity where she retired in the mid 80’s. She was also a 38 year member of the Canton Bowling Assoc., TOPS in Flackville and Canton for 14 years and she was a 4-H Leader for 4 years in Canton. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, especially “skip bo” and “pedro”, going to dances and playing games with her grandkids.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Sheila and Howard Worden of Henrietta, Wayne and Laurie of Canton and Sandra and Terry Moulton of Madrid; and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth V. Santimaw; and an infant son, Gary L.
