Russell J. Tuttle, Sr., age 72, passed away on October 11, 2011 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
His funeral service will be held in the Russell Methodist Church on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Dettmer officiating. Funeral arrangements are handled by French Funeral Home, Edwards.
Russell was born on March 27, 1939 in Russell, to the late Charles H. and Millie (VanSant) Tuttle. He graduated from the Knox Memorial High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Air Force from November 1956 until his honorable discharge July 1957. A marriage to Sylvia Carpenter, the mother of his children, ended in divorce. Mr. Tuttle married Joy Switzer of Kingston, Ontario in 2008.
Russell worked in various forms of law enforcement throughout the United States before working in construction management and driving truck. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the outdoors and reading. Russell was also a member of the Carpenter’s Union.
His survivors include his wife, Joy; three sons, Timothy Tuttle and his wife, Kellie of Rensselaer Falls, Russell J. Tuttle, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Potsdam, and Alan Tuttle and his partner, Dennis Huffman of Lewes, DE; a brother and his wife, Alton and Dale Tuttle of Russell; and two sisters, Millie and Dick Loucks of Marion, and Mertice Hance of Russell; two grandchildren, Matthew Tuttle and Russell J. Tuttle III; a great grandson, Zeke Tuttle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Van Tuttle; two sisters, Betty Jean Colton and Arlyss Sibbitts; and a grandson, Timothy Tuttle, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Russell’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or the Russell Volunteer Rescue Squad.
