Rose Alma "Elaine" (Paro) Barr, 82, formerly of Gouverneur

Rose Alma “Elaine” (Paro) Barr, age 82, of Tijeras, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gouverneur, New York to the late Guy L. and Alma E. (Brunet) Paro on November 29, 1936.

Elaine graduated from Hermon High School in 1954. After high school, she met Thomas E. Barr; they later married in Niagara Falls, New York on August 9, 1959.

Elaine was a homemaker living in Tijeras, with her husband, Thomas. She loved cooking, canning, gardening and sewing, in her spare time. Elaine was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing large meals for her family. She expanded her passion for cooking when she operated Barr’s Diner, in Fine, New York, where she cooked all the food she proudly served to her customers.

Elaine was a very caring person and was always looking out for the less fortunate and those in need. In addition to caring for her family, Elaine was licensed to care for individuals with disabilities and at times, brought them into her home, to provide them with a loving and caring environment. Elaine also loved animals; her cats and dogs were always right by her side, right up until her final days.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Tom; their children, Karen Barr, Brenda Barr, Eugene & Joan Barr, William & Shelly Barr; and grandchildren, Sherry & William LaBrosse, Weldon Bogardus III & Joseph Salamy, Lisa Bogardus, Thomas & Haidan Barr, Elizabeth “Becky” Barr, Kelsey Barr, Adriana Barr, Madesyn Barr; their great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Harley LaBrosse, Karson and Zander Barr; her siblings Inez & John Louis Salati, Genevieve Hamilton, Robert Paro, Ernest & Samantha Paro. Elaine leaves many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and special friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Guy & Alma Paro; her siblings, Edith Vansant, Leona Clark, Erwin Paro, Arlene Kimball; and her step-father, Roy Stowell.

A private graveside service and a Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank all those who helped care for Elaine during her last days.
