Robert F. (Bob) Lallier, age 89, of Gouverneur, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his daughter’s home under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.

Bob was born on February 2, 1922 in Croghan, NY. He was a son of the late Francis C. and Alice (Buckingham) Lallier. He graduated from the Father Leo Memorial School, Croghan as valedictorian of his class and then went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Bonaventure University, Olean after WWII.

From 1943 to 1946, Bob served in the US Army in the European Campaign, when he received his honorable discharge with the rank of S-Sgt. As platoon leader under the 575 AAA Auto Weapons Battalion, his unit helped liberate the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.

On July 1, 1950, Bob married Ann Elizabeth Baker in the Chapel of St. Bonaventure University, Olean. The wedding was officiated by Father Ambrose Buckingham OFM, the uncle of the groom. Ann passed away on December 10, 2001.

Bob retired as Regional Vice President of St. Lawrence National Bank, Gouverneur in 1987 after 18 years of working there. He had previously worked as an office manager, an accountant and insurance salesman at various locations in Alleghany, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.

Bob was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, a charter member of the Croghan American Legion, member and former Secretary and Treasurer of the Gouverneur Elk Lodge, a member of the Gouverneur VFW and former member and past President of the Gouverneur Rotary Club. He is a former Treasurer and Trustee of the E.J. Noble Hospital, Director of the Gouverneur Nursing Home, member and past Secretary, Treasurer and Director of the Gouverneur Country Club. In his younger years, Bob was an avid baseball player, and later, a very talented bowler and golfer. He successfully participated in the Northern New York Six Man Team Event and other golf tournaments for many years.

His survivors include five daughters; Mrs. John (Jeanne) Sheridan of Clifton, VA, Mary A. Lallier of Gouverneur, Susan E. Lallier of Verona, Mrs. Joseph (Anne) Reilly of Colton, Mrs. Michael (Catherine) Patneaude of Duanesburg, five sons; Robert F. Lallier, Jr. of Lakewood, OH, John M. (Elizabeth) of Helmetta, NJ, James D. of Potsdam, Daniel J. (Diane) of Gouverneur, Francis C. (Michele) of Massena. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A sister, Marion L. Decarlo died before him.

Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Sunday, May 15th from 2 - 4 p.m. His funeral mass will be at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur on Monday, May 16th at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery, Croghan.
