Funeral services for Rita Miles, age 90, of 114 Elbow Rd., North Syracuse and formerly of Ogdensburg will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Calling hours will also be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 4 -7 :00 p.m. at Sears Middleton Funeral Home in North Syracuse. Mrs. Miles passed away at Francis House in Syracuse on Friday, June 3, 2011. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
Mrs. Miles is survived by two daughters, Donna Miles of Camillus and Phyllis Mayne of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by four brothers, Henry, George, William, and Kenneth and three sisters, Helen Roach, Mary Duprey and Charlotte Kelly.
Mrs. Miles was born on December 13, 1920, the daughter of George and Charlotte Sauve Burns in Ogdensburg. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. She married Virgil Miles at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Msgr. Louis Berube officiating.
Mrs. Miles worked at J. J. Newberry for 26 years. She was a member of St. Margaret’s Church in Mattydale. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 49 years. She enjoyed all sports, especially Syracuse Orange Basketball, shopping, crafts, knitting, sewing and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
