Funeral services for Rita C. Richards, 85, of Bombay will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson. Rita passed away on Feb. 3, 2011 at Massena Memorial Hospital.
Rita is survived by her husband, Leon; six daughters, Linda and Gerald McElwain of Bombay, Barbara and Robert Higman of Langhorne, PA, Julie and Ulysses West of Lacey, Washington, Diane and Doug Smoke of Hogansburg, Sally Sudol of Syracuse, and Janine and James Caruso of Albany; 16 grandchildren, Dana Mills, Ryan and Sean Godard, Michael Higman, Christine Schramek, Brian and Lezlie West, Taylor, Mathew and Julie Smoke, Laura, Andrew, Jacqueline and Erin Sudol, and Jack and Madeline Caruso; nine great grand-children; and sisters and brothers, Janet Plamondon of Montreal, Lucy Lavoie of Calgary, Canada, Lucien Lalonde of Cornwall, Ontario and Richard Lalonde of Montreal.
She was predeceased by a sister, Florette Bisson.
Rita was born on November 6, 1925 in Cornwall, Ontario the daughter of Telesphore and Laura (Pigeon) Lalonde. Rita married Leon W. Richards on June 24, 1950 at the Church of the Nativity in Cornwall, Ontario.
Rita enjoyed watching hockey games. She was an avid reader and a fabulous cook, cooking for her family and friends, and she also enjoyed watching a variety of cooking shows. She and her husband volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. Rita loved to listen to music and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
