Richard M. Thayer, 81, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur. Richard was born May 15, 1930 in Edwards, the son of Arthur and Ida Bowman Thayer. Richard was employed at International Talc Co. and Gouverneur Talc Co. He had attended South Edwards Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, visiting his friends, and going for “left hand turn” rides in the country. Richard married Alberta McCargar on May 15, 2003 in South Edwards with Rev. Connie Seifert officiating. Alberta passed away January 14, 2009.
Richard is survived by a son, Richard and Diana Thayer of South Edwards; a daughter, Lori Paige of St. Mary’s, Georgia; stepchildren Maizie Tyo, Marla Bissonnette, Marvin, Matthew, Mark, and Mitch McCargar; several grandchildren, and great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Thayer of Hermon and David Thayer of Richville; four sisters, Sally Belmore of Norwood, Barbara Backus of Hailesboro, Beverly LaVare of Moira, and Colleen Gates of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by brothers Paul and Kenny Thayer; a sister, Mary Lou Dukett; and a granddaughter, Mandy Jo Thayer.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with lay minister Art Zehr officiating and burial in Hailesboro Cemetery. Calling hours are today, Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
