Mr. Richard F. Williams, age 86 of Potsdam, passed away on September 29th at the resident of his daughter Lexy Williams in South Colton. Funeral service will be held on Monday at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow the service at the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Parishville. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Richard is survived by his daughter, Lexy of South Colton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Colona Williams; and a brother, Burton Williams.
He was born August 18, 1924 in Potsdam, to Earl Williams and Jenny Rockwood. He was a graduate of Potsdam Central School. He worked at Alcoa for a few years and then served in the United States Navy for four years. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the States and married Colona Bullock on June 27, 1951 at the St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Norwood.
He then went back to work for Alcoa for a bit and then the Tree Preservation Company. After a few years he went to work for the New York Telephone Company where he remained until his retirement with over 37 years of service.
Mr. Williams enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family at their camp on the Blake Reservoir in the town of Parishville. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Amvets in Massena, the Potsdam Moose Lodge and the Potsdam VFW.
