Funeral services for Raymond J. Salton age 92 of Barre Street in Ogdensburg, will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Thomas Nichols officiating. Burial will follow the service at Flackville Cemetery.
Calling hours will also be held on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Salton passed away at his home on Thursday July 22, 2010 with his family by his side.
Surviving is his wife Doris; two sons, Robert Salton & his wife Lucy and Bernard Salton, both of Ogdensburg; a granddaughter, Lori Sharland & her husband Greg of Ogdensburg; great-granddaughters Brittany & Brandy Sharland of Ogdensburg; niece Barbara Grodewald and a nephew Larry Lalone & his wife Glenda, both of Florida.
A half-brother Floyd Lalone and a grandson Randy Salton predeceased him.
Raymond was born on June 17, 1918 in Lisbon, a son of the late John & Grace (Rookey) Salton. He attended Lisbon rural schools for his education and married Doris Nichols on December 4, 1949 in Englewood, NJ.
He operated his own farm on the Hanlon Road for many years and then worked as an independent hauler for St. Lawrence County until 1966 when he began working at Austin Glass. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Nevin Memorial Church and enjoyed playing cards, his camp on Black Lake, fishing and watching stock car racing.
Memorial contributions have been requested to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, Ogdensburg Rescue Squad or the SPCA.
