Prudence S. Love, 98, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at her home under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, her friends, and family.
Funeral arrangements will be private with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Prudence, the daughter of Frank and Linna Thomas Smith, was born May 10, 1912 in Gouverneur. She graduated from Syracuse Central High School and from Potsdam Normal School. Prudence was a teacher at Johnstown rural school and then at Indian River Central School district, retiring in 1972.
Prudence married Ivan C. Love on August 8, 1936 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church parsonage with Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Mr. Love, a retired dairy farmer, passed away August 19, 1988.
Prudence lived on the Johnstown Road nearly sixty years and was a member of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church, Gouverneur Retired Teachers, and New York State Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and watching sports on television.
Mrs. Love is survived by her son, Bradley Love of Gouverneur; and three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Thomas Love who passed away in childhood; two sisters, Neva Thompson and Altha Smith; and a brother, Kenneth Smith.
Memorial donations in Prudence’s memory may be made to the Gouverneur Foundation or Gouverneur Vol. Rescue Squad.
