Mrs. Phyllis M. Sharp, 86, a longtime resident of Debra Drive Apts, passed away Sunday evening, December 4, 2011 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July.
Phyllis was born June 16, 1925 in Vermontville, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Julia Lawrence Banker. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1944 and went to the New York Institute of Dietiatics in New York City, where she graduated in 1946. Phyllis married Ralph J. Sharp on October 1, 1949 in Massena. He predeceased her on April 5, 1976.
Phyllis was a homemaker and was an AVON representative for many years. Before marriage she also worked at many area restaurants. She was a past member of the Royal Neighbors and the Women’s Relief Corps, as well as the Raymondville United Methodist Church. Phyllis truly loved spending time with her family, listening to country music, and watching Judge Judy and Nancy Grace on television. She was always worried about others and took pride in doing for others.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette Smith and her husband, Timothy of Massena; her grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Misty Seaver, Corey Smith, and Brandi Smith, all of Massena; her great grandchildren, Sklar Smith and Elizabeth Seaver, both of Massena; her step daughter, Barbara LaShomb of Massena; and her step-grandchildren, Bob and Lori LaShomb, Sherry Bessie, John and Kim LaShomb, Tommy LaShomb, Tammy Herbstler , Scott and Lori McClure, Greg and Anne Sharp, and Maureen and Tom Johnson, all of Massena; her step-great grandchildren, Brittney and Megan LaShomb, Danielle Gregor, John Jr., Brandon, and Jake LaShomb, Nicholas Herbstler, Scott and Kristine, Matthew and Austin Sharp, and Alyssa and Nicholas Johnson; many great great grandchildren; by her sister, Wanda Phinney of Saranac Lake; her brother, Larry Banker of Ballston Spa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her stepson, Ralph J. Sharp, Jr; two brothers, Ernest and Lloyd “Sonny” Banker; and four sisters, Beulah Farmer, Rose LaFountain and Virginia and Corinne Banker.
Friends may call Thursday 2-3 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
