OGDENSBURG -- A Memorial Mass for Phyllis I. Wilson, age 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept 10, 2019) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Canton.
Surviving are her two daughters Loretta (John) Neumann of Olean, NY and Barbara (Kurt) Gould of Ogdensburg; a foster daughter Alberta (Tom) Meixsell of Pennsylvania; two brothers Joseph LaFave & his companion Barbara Davenport of Ogdensburg and Roland (Sheran) LaFave of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Victoria (Robert) DesRoches, Christopher Gould, Jamie (Roy) Sullivan, Jennifer (Raymond) Pease, Jessica Neumann, Kimberly Minton, Johnathan (Jonnie) Meixsell and Bradley (Abby) Meixsell; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Phyllis was predeceased by two husbands, Lawrence Seeley and Russell Wilson; a brother, Edgar LaFave and two sisters Mary Jane LaRock and Sylvia Tebo.
She was born on October 15, 1933 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Eugene “Pat” and Dorothy (Perkins) LaFave. She attended Catholic grade school, St. Mary’s Academy and received her GED from BOCES. She later married Lawrence Seeley, he predeceased her in 1964. She again found love and was married to Russell Wilson on July 11, 1981. He also predeceased her in 1998.
During her career she worked at EmKay Candle Company in Syracuse, Wilson Appliance, Mater Dei College and United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. She retired in 1999. Phyllis was a foster parent for many years and she enjoyed playing cards and solitaire on the IPAD, traveling, going to church, eating out, shopping and spending time with her family.
