A Memorial Mass for Peter Emerson “Emmy” Bartman will be celebrated by Family and Friends at St. Mary’s Church in Canton on June 11th at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Harry Snow and Rev. Douglas Lucia as celebrants. A time of food and fellowship will follow at St. Mary’s School. Private interment will be held in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Mr. Bartman passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the age of 95. He died while under the care of his wife, Virginia, his two daughters, JoAnne and Judith and the Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg, FL.
“Emmy”, as he was known, was predeceased by his wife, Bernetta who died in 1982 at the age of 65; a granddaughter; and two sisters and two brothers.
Emmy married Virginia James in 1986. He lived in Canton and Morristown for 75 years and owned and operated various businesses including the Nash and Rambler dealership on Riverside Drive and later Bartman’s Auto Parts at the same location.
Emmy was active in various organizations including the Knights of Columbus and the Canton Volunteer Fire Department, where he was Chief for five years. He also volunteered for Hospice and Meals on Wheels.
He loved his camp in Morristown and loved living in Florida the past 20 years.
Emmy is survived by his wife Virginia, two daughters, JoAnne (Ron) Scott, Judith (Robert) Ruddy, five grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
