WADDINGTON – The family of Patrick Edward Ruddy, age 77 are saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Phillips Memorial Home 28 Clinton Street Waddington, NY.
Family will be holding a celebration of life at American Legion Post 420, 23 Fenton St, Waddington on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 pm. A funeral mass and burial in the spring will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and cemetery in Waddington.
A life long resident of 1343 County Route 44, Pat was born to the late Mark and Elizabeth (Parkinson) Ruddy on September 23, 1945 and graduated from Madrid-Waddington in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Dutton, on June 25, 1966 at St. Mary’s Church, Waddington. Always a hardworking man, Pat worked at Alcoa before taking over the family farm “Early Dawn” for over a decade. A proud Teamster he worked for Putney Tree Removal, Bill Tiernan et al, Perras Excavating, and Optec before his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Waddington Volunteer Fire Department for more than 35 years and named Fireman of the Year in 2004.
Pat excelled in the garden and his woodworking shop sharing his talents with family and friends at the drop of a hat. He loved to sit where he could keep an eye on Franklin Road traffic when he wasn’t on one of his long countryside drives. He loved watching hockey with Cheryl and winning every arm-wrestling match he was challenged to.
Pat is survived by his devoted wife Cheryl of 56 years, sons Jared of CA, Jason of Cleveland, OH and daughter Julia (Chris) Rose of Brasher Falls, NY along with six grandchildren; Shane, Drew and Carter Rose and Jake, Grace and Olivia Ruddy. Pat is also survived by siblings; Margaret Zagrobelny, Rita (Robert) LaClair, Frances (Robert) Marcil, Helen Ruddy, and Joseph (Sandra) Ruddy and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Bernard.
